The Sons of Liberty was a group of people that fought the British rule using protests and movements. Originally they had nine people and were called the loyal nine because they were loyal to the colonies. They grew to a total of nineteen members. One of the events they participated in was called the Boston Tea Party where they raided a ship dressed as Indians and threw the tea into the harbor. After all the protesting and fighting between the colonies, the colonists gained their independence through the Declaration of Independence. Four of the Sons of Liberty, John Hancock, Samuel Adams, Benjamin Rush, and Oliver Wolcott, signed the Declaration of Independence. This website has only partial information about the complete membership of the Sons of Liberty and covers only four major people in the Sons of Liberty.
"Before America could have any Founding Fathers, the country needed Sons of Liberty to stand up to the British government. These men harnessed the outrage that had spread following Parliament's Stamp Act of 1765, which levied an internal tax on the colonies. Though the Stamp Act was repealed, the disagreement over "taxation without representation" wouldn't go away, resulting in events like the Boston Massacre and the Boston Tea Party." http://www.biography.com/news/american-revolutionaries-facts
